Steve Whiting is a retired principal from KPMG LLP, where he was responsible for the firm’s financial instrument valuation efforts. He holds a Ph.D. degree in Economics from the University of Michigan. Steve’s teams were actively involved helping Financial Services clients in areas of operational risk, market risk, value at risk, trade accounting, trade documentation, credit risk, economic and regulatory capital matters, trading risk management, model review and model assessment.
Before joining KPMG, Steve held positions as Vice President at Citibank and as Vice President at Internationale Nederlanden (U.S.) Capital Markets (ING). In both of these functions Steve traded and structured derivative transactions for customers and for the proprietary positions of the banks. He was also involved in asset securitization and the use of special purpose vehicles for tax-advantaged investments. Prior to his work in capital markets Steve held positions as an economic analyst for the Chairman of Citicorp and a country risk analyst at Marine Midland Bank. During this period Steve was actively involved in the development of strategies for banks involved in Emerging Markets.
