Who Is the DTRF Virtual Tumor Board For?
If you are a physician treating a desmoid tumor patient and are finding treatment exceptionally challenging, the case may be eligible for review by the Desmoid Tumor Research Foundation (DTRF) Virtual Tumor Board.
Led by Dr. Aaron Weiss, pediatric oncologist at Maine Medical Center and Chair of DTRF’s Medical Advisory Board, the DTRF Virtual Tumor Board is an international video conference that meets quarterly and allows physicians to discuss their difficult desmoid tumor cases with leading specialists in the field and receive their input.
Each call covers approximately three desmoid tumor cases, where presenting physicians share de-identified patient history and scans with the rest of the board. Participating specialists who provide input at these meetings are in the fields of oncology, radiology, surgical oncology, pathology and interventional radiology.
We are pleased to be able to offer this important resource free of charge to help patients and their physicians. If you are living with a desmoid tumor and feel like your case may be eligible, speak with your physician as soon as possible about the DTRF Virtual Tumor Board.
Before submitting a case, please note the below guidelines:
- Only a physician can submit and present an individual’s desmoid tumor case
- Due to limited space during these conferences, life-threatening or other time-sensitive cases will take priority during the selection process
- Preference may be given to physicians unfamiliar with desmoid tumors who may be facing a lack of access to resources and support.
